Research focus: Work, Digitalization and Sustainability

The world of work is undergoing fundamental change, which is being driven to a large extent by the use of new technologies and has far-reaching consequences. Entire fields of employment are changing as a result, as are established structures, models and processes in various labor markets. At the same time, this change also has an impact on the education and training systems and changes the qualification requirements of employees. Sustainability as a driving force as well as a fulfillment criterion of this development has rarely been investigated so far. Especially in a digitalized work environment, sustainability plays an important role in an ecological and economic sense as well as in a social sense.

The research focus "Work, Digitalization and Sustainability" starts precisely here and thus makes a central contribution to the cross-sectional topic of digital transformation at the University of Hohenheim.  It bundles the interdisciplinary cooperation of the departments of the Institute for Education, Work and Society (560). The cooperation is to be continuously expanded with internal and external partners. In doing so, synergies in terms of content are to profitably complement the research focus.

Goals are among others

  •  the thematic establishment and interdisciplinary research of sustainability in the digitalized world of work
  •  the establishment and expansion of (inter)national research cooperations
  •  the (inter)national networking of young scientists and scholars.

The interaction of the disciplines at the University of Hohenheim for research into sustainability in a digitalized working world is unique in this combination.
